Concerned Citizens
Some citizens are so concerned with the law enforcement's stop and frisk policy that they are using social media to try to get their message across. The SanCopha League uses social media sights such as tumblr, Facebook, and twitter to expose corruption that exists.
Police Planting Evidence, More Common Than You Think
The New York Times reported in 2011 that a Brooklyn detective was convicted of planting evidence on a man and woman, and faced up to four years in prison. This is an example of the "anything goes" attitude of law enforcement drug units. The original article can be found here.
It is important to ask ourselves how safe is this really making our society? Would it not make more sense to treat addiction as a public health issue rather than a crime? It is doubtful, with our ever present police culture in the U.S., that this will ever happen.
Law enforcement is able to release statistics of arrests that make it seem that they are taking violent criminals off the streets, but how many of these "violent criminals" were one time drug offenders, or even worse completely innocent?

NYPD Officer Adhyl Polanco is now openly testifying to quotas being the reason for many unconstitutional stops and arrests. You can read more about the trial and testimony here.
"Flaking"
A Former Police Officer Admits to "Flaking".
"Flaking" is the word law enforcement uses for the practice of planting evidence on innocent people to boost arest numbers.

Examples of Law Enforcement Going Too Far
We all like to think the the police are there to protect and serve. We believe they uphold the law and bring criminals to justice. Disturbing reports have shown police officers brutalizing animals to keep people "safe". Change.org has even published and article and petition for a dog named Parrot, who was thrown down a flight of stairs and then executed by a police officer. There were no reports of the dog threatening the safety of the officer himself, or any of the people around him. To read the full story and sign the petition you can click the link here.
How "Productive" is the NYPD Really?
Project Censored is an organization that brings under reported stories to light. Many of the stories that appear on this site never make it to the main stream media, though they do have validity to them. A report that caught my interest was that the New York City Police Department is using arrest quotas and planting evidence on suspects. This is disturbing to any innocent citizen that could be wrongly accused of a crime because an officer of the law wants better hours and more over time. Like any other profession they are concerned with productivity this raises some concerning questions. By demanding that police officers make a certain amount of arrests and "stop and frisks" each month could they possibly taking away their attention from more serious crimes? Could law enforcement actually be wasting time with petty crimes to meet "productivity goals" when there are more serious crimes still happening? It is important for citizens to know their rights and how safe they really are. To read the original Project Censored article click here.
